"Easter Egg Coloring"
“Easter Egg Coloring” is another political cartoon done by
Edwin Marcus during the Cold War. The cartoon shows Joseph Stalin (the leader
of the Soviet Union at the time) pouring a can of paint (with "Red
Propaganda" printed on it) over a globe that is in the shape of an egg. The
seemingly lighthearted illustration proposes the Russians’ use of propaganda is
meant to convert the world to Communism. If the cartoon wasn’t printed in black
and white, the paint would surely be red (as the label on the paint suggests)
since communists were commonly known as “reds” referring to their allegiance to
the red Soviet flag.
