"Oh, Listen to the 'Mocking' Bird"
Marcus’
political cartoon, created in 1948, illustrates Joseph Stalin, Soviet leader, singing
"Peace" as a Mocking bird. The Stalin Mocking bird seems to be annoying
a man whose head resembles the world. The man seems skeptical of the “peace”
that the bird sings of and is shown covering his ears, walking away from the aggravating
bird. The cartoon was drawn and published during the early stages of the Cold
War, and just a few years after the end of the Second World War. The cartoonist
Marcus mocks the Soviet Union and the numerous statements they made claiming peace
through their use of propaganda.
